Hanging out from YouTube


Google owns YouTube so their latest feature for Plus—allowing us to start hangouts from YouTube—was easy for them to implement.

The following is one of my trip videos driving through the North Carolina mountains (see my YouTube channel). Note at the bottom-right of the following screenshot the link now appearing on YouTube videos when Share is clicked—Start a Google+ Hangout.

Clicking on the preceding link on the YouTube page causes Plus to open our now familiar start-a-hangout dialog box. We choose what groups we wish to share the showing and discussion of this video with (that is, who can join the chat). We then click on Hang out.

The hangout then opens with your chosen video playing. The video may be one of your own or any other on YouTube on which you want to get a discussion going.

Note that the YouTube button in the controls at the bottom below is automatically depressed and the microphone muted. When others join the hangout, they and you use the Push to talk...
