Understanding the SQL Server management tasks from a DPM perspective

There are several management tasks that a database administrator must perform; this recipe will cover the most common scenarios and how System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager will cooperate with them.

Getting ready

When the database administrator makes changes to the SQL Server configuration, it could cause the DPM protection to fail.

The most common management tasks for SQL Server are:

Upgrading SQL Server versions
Moving SQL Servers to new domains
Renaming the computer running SQL Server
Changing the recovery model of a database
Changing the path of a SQL Server database
Renaming a SQL Server database

How to do it…

In all the earlier mentioned management tasks, the DPM configuration will not automatically update itself. When the database administrator performs any of the mentioned management tasks, the DPM protection will fail.
