In this chapter, we have covered the basics of networking in AWS. We looked at Amazon Elastic IPs, Amazon Elastic Load balancing, and Amazon Virtual Private Clouds. We also looked at how we set up a standalone Active Directory Domain Controller (DC) in AWS and how to overcome the issues with DCs and Security Groups. We saw in detail how to set up an application in AWS, and the step-by-step procedure on how to set up our sample application networking.

In the next chapter, we will look at how to set up our database servers for our sample application, as well as looking at the following AWS services:

  • Amazon vendor-specific AMIs

  • Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS)

  • Amazon Elastic MapReduce
