Installing a Sametime Media Server


The Media Server is a WAS-based server component that handles audio and video services both within Instant Messaging clients and in meetings. It is required if you want to use audio or video services, but you can choose not to install it if audio and video functionality is not a requirement.

If you do choose to install the Media Server, then you must first have installed a Community Server as a minimum prerequisite. The Media Server must also be installed as part of the SSC, so the first step is to build a Deployment Plan to define the Media Server install itself.

The name of the Deployment Plan determines how this server appears in the SSC in the future. It can have whatever name you choose, but it should be descriptive as it will aid your administration and maintenance efforts going forward. Click on Next to proceed.
