Exploring template parts and templates

There are two key concepts that need to be mentioned, templates and template parts:

  • Template parts: Reusable pieces that go across your site. A good example of these are headers or footers.
  • Templates: Pre-set entire layouts that are more than just patterns. A good example of this is a front page or a particular archive page layout.

These two concepts form the foundation for interactions within the Site Editor, as we’ll discover. In a later chapter, we will combine this with global styling to truly unlock its power. There is a lot you can do with the Site Editor, and it can be overwhelming. The best approach is to learn task by task. So, let’s do just that and break it down into more familiar concepts.
