RESS Essentials
The fastest and easiest method is using the network panel in Firebug. Unfortunately, this is only good for testing on desktops. There are online services for testing the page-load speed available at http://www.webpagetest.org/. However, its methodology is undocumented and it is hard to rely on it when testing RESS applications. For example, in tests of pages built around the <picture> polyfill script (with iPhone 4 set as the target) the biggest images were always downloaded while with the RESS system in place during the first request, the smallest images were downloaded and during the second request the biggest images were downloaded.It seems that the WURFL screen width used during the first request returned 320 px, and the JavaScript later detected a large screen.
