  • File Server

A server in the file server class of software servers (that is, Microsoft Windows Server, RedHat Linux Server, SuSE Linux Server, AIX Server). File servers provide filesystem access and do not conform to Java 2 Enterprise Edition specifications.

  • Database Server

A server in the database server class of servers (that is, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL Server, Oracle). Database servers typically support a relational database management system (RDBMS).

  • Web Server

A server in the web server class of servers (that is, Apache or Microsoft IIS). Web servers support software that follows Internet standards such as the hypertext transfer protocol (http).
