Just to remind you, RIP is a dynamic routing protocol that enables routers to exchange routing information. RIP is IETF's oldest distance vector protocol. In every 30 seconds, RIP exchanges routing information with the other routers in a network topology based on distance (hop count) and direction (next-hop). Further, RIP is considered an IGP, because it transmits the routing information with AS. Predominantly, it is used in small to medium-sized networks. It comes in two versions, such as RIPv1, defined by IETF's RFC 1058, and as RIPv2, defined by IETF's RFC 1723.
