Appendix: Licensing

Inevitably, we’ll have to license the products we use either in a production or lab environment. Check Point is generous with its evaluation licenses for those learning about its products or using them in lab environments. Generally, you’ll be acquiring or renewing production licenses through your Check Point channel partner, who will be very well versed in all the intricacies of the process, but it is helpful to have some understanding of what all of those strings of letters and numbers are referring to. You also have to understand how to apply the licenses to the products you are using.

The following topics will be covered in this appendix:

  • Licensing
  • Licensing for gateways
  • Licensing for management servers
  • Central and local licenses
  • License activation
  • Evaluation licenses for the lab
  • SmartUpdate and additional information
