Parental controls

As responsible administrators, we should always do our best to provide a safe computing environment for our users. From a technical perspective, this may involve implementing many of the security measures previously discussed in this chapter. However, protection from inappropriate content can be just as important, especially when we administer systems for younger users.

To assist us with this, ChromeOS provides a built-in parental control tool called Family Link. For Android OS users, this tool should seem very familiar because it’s the same app used to provide oversight on your young person’s Android-compatible smartphone or tablet. When Family Link is connected to a child’s Google account, the Family Link manager (typically a parent) can control which apps can be downloaded, which websites can be viewed, how long a device is allowed to be used, and much more.
