Financial Modeling and Reporting with Microsoft Power BI

There will frequently be cases where an organization is made up of more than one company or legal entity. This can arise from a deliberate separation of a group's operations, especially common with multinationals, or from acquisitions. Since these companies may have different accounting systems – or at least different instances of the same system – consolidated reporting can cause a challenge and this is often a key driver for building a suite of financial reports in Power BI. Indeed, even where an accounting system supports multiple companies, differences in the calendars and chart of accounts can render many built-in consolidations difficult or meaningless. In our example scenario, we have successfully piloted Power BI in the UK and now want to onboard the US trading entity.As a result, we need to look at how we can add multiple companies' data into the data model.
