Financial Modeling and Reporting with Microsoft Power BI
By :
In this chapter, we continued our journey into the DAX language with a specific focus on the needs of the finance professional. We covered the differences between measures and calculated columns, took a more detailed look at the basic aggregations that we introduced in Chapter 3, Creating a Trial Balance and Income Statement, and took a first look at the CALCULATE function and how that can be used to control filtering. We then looked at the best ways to handle percentages and introduced the concept of time intelligence. Finally, we expanded on the considerations we covered in Chapter 2, The Basic Model for Financial Reporting, to show how we can handle foreign exchange where that is necessary.
In the next chapter, we're going to focus on the very specific area of the considerations around dealing with journals.
