Source code control is important in any development environment, whether you are working on your own or with other users in a team accessing the same files. Sometimes called source code management or version control, source code control provides a revision history of the code you are working on and the ability to compare changes and merge documents. There are a number of open source version control systems available and Oracle SQL Developer provides tight integration with two of them, Concurrent Versions System (CVS) and Subversion (SVN). In this chapter, we'll look at this integration, focusing specifically on Subversion. We'll look at browsing files in the file system from within SQL Developer, in addition to working with your versioning repository in SQL Developer, by importing files into the repository and checking them out, modifying them, and checking them back in.
