Showing information about your app

If you are planning on distributing your application to others, it may be a good idea to add AboutBox as a place to show some general information about your application. This information commonly includes the application's version number, author or company name, and any copyright information. In this recipe, we will make a simple application and show how to incorporate AboutBox in it.

How to do it…

Here are the steps that you need to perform:

  1. First, let's create a Frame that has a Menu option to show AboutBox, as follows:

    class AboutRecipeFrame(wx.Frame):
        def __init__(self, parent, title):
            super(AboutRecipeFrame, self).__init__(parent, title=title)

            # Attributes
            self.panel = wx.Panel(self)

            # Setup Menus
            menubar = wx.MenuBar()
            helpmenu = wx.Menu()
            helpmenu.Append(wx.ID_ABOUT, "About")
            menubar.Append(helpmenu, "Help")
            self.SetMenuBar(menubar)

            # Setup StatusBar
            self.CreateStatusBar...
