Planning and Configuring Site Policies

Site policies are a method to help manage the governance of the life cycle of sites. A site policy can be used to determine when a site will be closed and when it will be deleted. Closing a site closes or deletes any subsites as well; likewise, if an Exchange mailbox has been configured for the site, then this is deleted as well.

Closing a site hides it, but it is still accessible through the direct URL to the site.

Overview of site policies

A site policy specifies the conditions under which to close or delete a site. There are four configuration options:

  • Do not close or delete the site automatically: This is essentially no policy. Site owners must close and delete sites manually.
  • Delete the site automatically: This setting specifies that if an owner closes a site, it will be deleted automatically according to the settings. The delete policy specifies a rule with the following options:
