You may have noticed that although this book focuses on newer releases of SugarCRM, much of the content revolves around the 5.x iterations of the product. This is partly due to the fact that this project was initiated prior to SugarCRM 6.0 entering its testing phase, and thus, it was not accessible. It has since completed its release cycle and is worth briefly discussing.
The vast majority of the development work that went into the 6.0 release revolved around providing a new user interface, as illustrated in the following screenshot:
Vastly different from prior releases, the new interface greatly simplifies navigation and gives the system a slick new look.
In addition to the cosmetic changes, the Studio tool has been enhanced to allow for the customization of pop-up views used within the application when searching for related records.
Performance enhancements have also been incorporated into this release, along with the customary bug fixes that most other vendors tend to also include with new releases.
The most obvious change, of course, is the new interface. However, the new interface is a feature exclusive to Professional and Enterprise Edition users.
Community Edition users will notice some minor enhancements to the interface—mostly within the list, detail, and edit views. However, enhancements equivalent to the new interface of the Professional and Enterprise Editions should not be expected.
