Customize Our Weblog Fields

As discussed in the previous chapter, one of the big benefits of using ExpressionEngine is the ability to customize our fields. This allows us to really tailor the fields we are using with the application we are using them for.

In our case, we are creating a weblog to showcase our toast products. We are going to have two text-based fields: a summary and a description. The summary will be displayed on our browsing pages so that visitors can briefly see what distinguishes each product. The description will be displayed on our individual product pages, and will allow us to go more in depth in describing the product.

As we are selling products, we will also want a photo of the product, so we will have a field for the photo file name. Finally, because toast is a food-based product, we are going to have fields for all our nutritional information (for example, calories, fat, carbohydrates, and protein).
