We have now used ExpressionEngine to build a fairly functional but fictional website for our online toast-selling business. This far, however, we are the only ones who can log into ExpressionEngine and the only ones who have been making any changes. To make our website complete, we are going to explore the member functionality of ExpressionEngine.
In this chapter, we will:
Allow members of the public to register themselves for our site, and allow them to log in and out
Create a members only area of our website to give our members an incentive to join
Create an Editors member group, whose members will be able to access the control panel to publish and edit entries, but will not be able to edit template code or change administrative options
Set up a Stand-Alone Entry Form, which allows us to post to a weblog without even logging into the control panel
Create a mailing list that visitors can sign up for
Before we get started managing members, we will first walk through the basics...
