Many of the same basic skills have been used time and again—creating a new weblog, setting up custom fields, configuring our preferences, and posting entries to the new weblog. We have also covered using templates to merge a normal HTML and CSS page with ExpressionEngine tags that control what is displayed and which member groups can see it.

Breaking away from a step-by-step approach, this chapter looks at a general overview of modules and functionality that go beyond what we have discussed this far. Not all these features are appropriate for every site, and many of them can be used in different ways for different sites.

We will discuss how to:

  • Find new modules and plug-ins

  • Create a discussion forum

  • Use Simple Commerce to integrate PayPal into ExpressionEngine in order to sell goods

  • Start a wiki

We will also look at how to:

  • Add search functionality...
