Audio has sometimes been the forgotten step-child of multimedia, and this has in the past been reflected in Drupal. Because the Internet has largely been a visual experience, there has not been much sound. Also due to the nature of the evolution of browsers, computer sound handling, and the fact that users of the Web are accustomed to viewing content using the concept of pages of a book, support for audio has been spotty in general, far before Drupal ever came along.
By the end of this chapter, you will have seen how to overcome some of the apparent limitations of including audio in your content.
As with video, there are a multitude of audio file formats available. However, what to use is limited by the player(s) you wish to support on your site. The Audio module (which we'll cover in this chapter) by default allows .wav, .mp3
, and .ogg
