The authentication mechanism in JIRA


JIRA is a web-based tool used by multiple users, each having different permissions based on the group they are part of or to what role they are added in the project. JIRA has a built-in authentication mechanism known as JIRA Internal Directory, but it's possible to connect JIRA to external directories as well; let's take a look at how this is done.

JIRA Internal Directory

JIRA comes with an internal directory that is enabled by default; the first administrative user is a part of the internal directory and until you add another directory, all additional users are added in this internal directory. JIRA stores this in its own database.
