Creating a Split Edit with Asymmetric Trimming


This recipe will be covering only the essential steps for creating a Split Edit. If it's confusing in any way, Asymmetric Trimming is explained in much more detail in Chapter 5, Maintaining and Regaining Sync. Further, this recipe will be using the Shift + click method to configure the Trim Rollers, which is discussed in the Using and configuring the Trimming tools recipe in Appendix B, Details on Trimming, Slipping, Sliding, and Segment Mode.

Getting ready

For this example, you're editing a documentary about auto racing. The first shot (the A-side shot) is of our interview subject, famous race car driver, Teddy Orlando. He says, "I've been racing for 10 years now and I never get tired of it. I absolutely love the feeling of speed." Then, the second shot (the B-side shot) is footage of Teddy's race car loudly speeding around the track.
