Overview of this book

Scribus is an Open Source program that brings award-winning and inexpensive professional page layout to desktop computers with a combination of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout. Creating professional-looking documents using Scribus is not a cakewalk, especially with so many features at your disposal, it’s hard to know where to get started! Scribus Beginners guide walks users step by step through common projects, such as creating a brochure,newsletter, business cards and so on. It also includes guidelines on starting a web newsletter and online PDF (Adobe Acrobat format) newsletter along with basic scripting to extend Scribus as per your requirements. Time for action - quick export method


There are many export options in Scribus and the export option that you choose once are saved within the file so that you don't have to redo everything each time. Here is a fast method that shows the most important fields to control:

  1. Go to File | Export | Save as PDF.

  2. In the Save as PDF window, give a name and verify that the PDF Compatibility is on PDF 1.4 at least.

  3. Then go to Fonts tab and verify if all the fonts listed in the left-hand part of the window are listed in the right-hand part. If not, select it on the left-hand part and click the arrow button activated to pass it or click on the Outline All button.

  4. In the Color tab, you will choose the way the document will be exported. Generally, you will choose Printer.

  5. If needed, go to Pre-Press tab, and check for crop and bleed marks.

  6. You now just have to click on the Save button.
