In this chapter, you will learn how to offer promotional pricing. Magento offers several ways of creating promotional pricing. The key difference between the various promotional pricing is when the discount is applied. For example:
A Catalog Price Rule is applied when you view a product. The customer sees the discount as he/she browses the catalog.
A Shopping Cart Price Rule is applied when a product is added to the shopping cart. The customer sees the discount after he/she adds the product to the shopping cart.
A Coupon Code is applied during the payment part of checkout, after the customer enters a code into the shopping cart.
A catalog price rule is a change in price that is applied to a product before that product is added to the shopping cart. For example, we could offer "10 percent off on all coffee".
