Introduction of WAI for good web design


Before discussing best practices of a theme, we will look at the official guidelines provided by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for good web design. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of W3C is a set of guidelines intended for web developers and designers on how to improve web accessibility for people with disabilities. These guidelines are helpful not only for people with a disability, but also for users who work in difficult environments (such as strong light, darkness, bad light, and so on).

Some guidelines to improve web accessibility for a majority of users is as follows:

  • Avoid poor color contrast to improve readability. Normally, black text on a white background or white text on a black background is suitable for all users. Make sure that you choose the right color contrast before designing a website.
