What might we use a web app for?


A web app, above all, gives the user a chance to do something, rather than just passively consuming content.

Some tasks we might want to build into a web app could include the following:

  • Mobile commerce: An online shop customized to make it as user-friendly as possible on mobile devices

  • Online bookings: Maybe for a hotel or conference. This is something a lot of desktop sites incorporate, but by building it into our web app we could drastically increase the number of bookings from mobile users.

  • Event or vacation planning: Once the user is at an event or on vacation, our web app could help him/her identify what's happening and add events to his/her diary or book activities.

  • Mapping: By accessing the device’s GPS coordinates or IP address, we can give users information about business or events close to them.

  • Social media: We can tap into social media platforms, for example Facebook, or use BuddyPress to build our own social or community apps.

  • Adding content to a website...
