Using Note FX to spark creativity

Note FX are effects processors that modify notes in real time as they are sent to a MIDI instrument. This allows you to try creative ideas on the processor’s interface, without actually changing or editing the original performance.

There are four Note FX plugins in Studio One:

  • Arpeggiator
  • Chorder
  • Repeater
  • Input Filter

The first three are available in Studio One Pro only, while Input Filter comes bundled with all versions. We will explore each of these processors, but first, let’s take a look at how you can load them onto an Instrument Track.

Loading Note FX plugins

Note that FX plugins can be initiated in two ways. Here’s the first method:

  1. Open the Browse panel and go to the Instruments tab.
  2. In the list of instruments, find Note FX, and click the small triangle next to it. This will reveal the Note FX plugins installed on your system:
