Recording Your First Audio Track

One of the coolest things about music production is that there are no hard and fast rules on how to start creating. Sometimes, you already have a Song idea and want to build on top of that. Sometimes, you just want to experiment until you find a gem that inspires you. Studio One allows you to start your creative journey on any of these paths and work your way toward a fully produced final master.

This chapter and the next are not sequential in terms of workflow. If you already have a song idea, you will want to record it as a scratch track and then start working on its arrangement. If so, follow along with this chapter and then proceed to the next. If, however, you want to start with a blank canvas, explore the new sounds available in the Studio One ecosystem, and experiment until you find that catchy hook for your next hit, skip ahead to the next chapter, and come back to this one when you’re ready to add audio material.
