Creating a New Song

A Song is the heart of Studio One. It’s where you do most of your production work, including recording, editing, and mixing. In this chapter, we will create your first Song in Studio One together.

Music production is a highly creative process and each project is unique. You may create a new Song just to try out new ideas and see what comes out, or you may already have a fully arranged composition that you’d like to finalize. I will present a step-by-step workflow in this and the following chapters, but keep in mind that this is a flexible process and you are welcome to skip any steps that you are not ready to complete yet (you can always come back to them later).

In this chapter, we will take a close look at the options and settings available for creating a new Song. Some of these are controversial and often spark debates in studios and on the internet. This means that some technical discussion is in order, but I promise to keep it simple.
