Network and communication security


The MDM business scenarios need to deal with the following types of security:

  1. 1. Communication channel security

  2. 2. Network security

  3. 3. Communication destinations

In this section, we discuss about the communication channel security mechanism supported by MDM 7.1.

SSL support for securing the communication channel

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is used as the transport layer security mechanism for all communication between MDM 7.1 components. Encrypted as well as unencrypted channels can simultaneously run on all the MDM servers (MDS, MDIS, MDSS, and MDLS) for the various clients (rich clients such as MDM Console and thin clients through MDM APIs).

Note

Third party applications and components (such as the DBMS) need to provide their own custom security mechanism, as MDM does not support SSL for communicating with them.

The pre-requisites for SSL support in MDM 7.1 are as follows:

  • MDM servers and clients must be on version 7.1 SP07 or higher
