The MDM business scenarios need to deal with the following types of security:
1. Communication channel security
2. Network security
3. Communication destinations
In this section, we discuss about the communication channel security mechanism supported by MDM 7.1.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is used as the transport layer security mechanism for all communication between MDM 7.1 components. Encrypted as well as unencrypted channels can simultaneously run on all the MDM servers (MDS, MDIS, MDSS, and MDLS) for the various clients (rich clients such as MDM Console and thin clients through MDM APIs).

Third party applications and components (such as the DBMS) need to provide their own custom security mechanism, as MDM does not support SSL for communicating with them.
