Preface

MDM security: at a glance

MDM, in addition to providing role-based access restrictions to data and functions within the MDM clients such as Data Manager, also provides administrative security through the MDM Console.

The MDM Console provides the following levels of role-based access to the MDM repository objects and functions:

  • Server-level MDM Console functions: A valid password needs to be provided before carrying out any authenticated server-level MDM Console functions.

    Note

It is possible to view and access mounted repositories without server-level authentication.

  • Repository-level MDM Console functions: Any repository-level MDM Console operation first requires the user to connect to the repository, by entering a valid username and password.

The MDM server-level Console functions requiring a valid password are listed as follows:

  • Start MDM Server

  • Stop MDM Server

  • Mount Repository

  • Create Repository

  • Duplicate Repository

  • Delete Repository

  • Create Slave

  • Archive Repository

  • Unarchive Repository

  • DBMS Settings

  • Log...
