Chapter 7. Lessons and Blogs

Moodle's blog is the tool that showcases a student's interest in the subject of History and captures the date of important experiences in their development as real students of the discipline. It can be a marvellous tool for encouraging students to pursue independent learning. This online diary gives them the opportunity to post entries that can be read by anyone in the school community. It is the means by which students can produce evidence for the different elements of Clio's Challenge writing a review of a historical novel or a film, visiting a museum with family and friends, attending a Civil War re-enactment, and so on.

The lesson in Moodle might at first just appear to be a series of linked web pages. For the History teacher however, it is a wonderful opportunity to blend resources, including images, podcasts, and videos, with questions. Used creatively, the lesson captures a teacher's unique expertise and passion for a subject and preserves it electronically...
