Selecting an architecture

Selecting a calling architecture to suit the physical, legal, and technical needs of your organization is a key decision in your planning process. While you can utilize multiple routes to the PSTN, choosing the best route will be key in uncomplicating your deployment. There are three major architectures you can select from, as follows:

  • Calling Plans for Microsoft 365
  • Direct Routing
  • Operator Connect

These architectures allow you to have flexibility, both when integrating into an existing VoIP infrastructure and selecting a PSTN voice provider. The following table shows feature availability across architectures, which can be used to help guide design discussions:
