Summary

Selections are great because they allow you to choose only a certain part of an image to edit, leaving the rest of the image untouched. While it's easy to select a part of a photo and make a correction, such as changing the color or brightness, it's always a good practice to copy and paste that selection into its own layer before making changes. This way, if you mess up something you are only making adjustments on a new layer and can very easily delete that layer to start over. Having layers with specific selections will allow you to fine-tune your images in the most artistic way. Not every part of your image should have the same hue/saturation or many other attributes, so being able to select what you need to modify is the first part of creating that perfect image.

In this chapter, we learned all about the many ways of selecting parts of an image. In the next chapter we are going to dive into Layers so that we can start to create image composites.
