Technical requirements

To take advantage of the Teams features in an Exchange hybrid environment, you'll need to meet a few requirements:

  • On-premises identities need to be synchronized to Azure Active Directory with Azure Active Directory Connect (AAD Connect).
  • Azure Active Directory identities for corresponding on-premises users must have both an Exchange and Teams license assigned.
  • Azure AD Connect needs to be configured with the Exchange Hybrid Deployment feature.
  • On-premises Autodiscover and Exchange Web Services (EWS) resources must be published externally (for example, a CNAME record such as autodiscover.contoso.com published in DNS and https://autodiscover.contoso.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx available externally).
  • The on-premises environment must be Exchange Server 2016 with Cumulative Update (CU) 3 or later.
  • OAuth authentication must be enabled (typically configured while running the Exchange Hybrid Configuration Wizard).
