Building Websites with Microsoft Content Management Server
A menu that displays two levels of navigation works well on some sites. Others require the generation of multiple levels, sometimes all the way down to the last child in the hierarchy. An example of this is a BreadCrumb control.
This control gives visitors a visual clue as to their location in the website. When showing the Plant Catalog page, the BreadCrumb displays:
Home > Plant Catalog
When showing the Hibiscus plant fact sheet, the BreadCrumb changes to:
Home > Plant Catalog > Hibiscus
It's the "You Are Here" sign helping visitors to orientate themselves and not get lost in your site. Visitors can click on any of the crumbs and jump to the parent sections of the current page.
The term breadcrumb is used because it resembles the trail left by the fictional characters Hansel and Gretel and essentially helps you to find your way back.
Add a new Web User Control to the project. In Solution Explorer, right-click the UserControls folder. Select Add | Add Web User...

Change background colour
