Channels and folders are not pages. When users request a URL that matches a channel or a folder, what should they see? The idea of assigning a default posting to a channel is very much like the concept of default.htm files in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). In MCMS, every channel object has a DefaultPostingName property. When a request that matches the URL of a channel is made, the posting with a name that matches the value stored in the channel's DefaultPostingName property will be displayed.
There are two ways to go about assigning default postings to a channel. You could:
Use Site Manager. This is the easiest and fastest method, which we will explore in this chapter.
Use the Publishing Application Programming Interface (or PAPI; see Chapter 12 for information about using the PAPI).
