Chapter 11. Maintaining MediaWiki

Throughout the course of this book, we have installed MediaWiki on our server, configured and customized it to our liking, and added pages of content for our visitors. However, our work is not yet done. Actually, the work of the MediaWiki sysop is really never done because he or she should always be working to maintain their site and its software, so it continues running smoothly and providing its audience with the content and service they expect.

This chapter is dedicated to teaching you how to perform certain tasks that can help keep your site running efficiently and effectively even in the event of a disaster. Specifically, in this chapter we will cover:

  • How to run maintenance scripts

  • How to back up your wiki

  • How to restore your wiki from a backup

  • How to upgrade the MediaWiki software
