Chapter 8. The MediaWiki Administrator

In the last chapter, we touched on some of the basic concepts of what it takes to manage our wiki as the administrator. While we focused mainly on content and pages, we should know that it takes much more than content management to effectively run a site.

In this chapter, we are going to start focusing on some of the administrative functions available in MediaWiki. To really get the most out of this you will need some knowledge about PHP for modifying files. It will be great if you have a working knowledge about PHP for changing some of these settings. However, if you are panicked at the thought of having to write code, don't worry; as we go through examples, you will be able to pick up few basics of PHP. So here we go. Don't forget, you have been working with the LocalSettings.php file of the config folder throughout the course of this book so far and we haven't broken anything yet!
