Time for action - restoring the filesystem on a new installation


You should recall that when we backed up our filesystem, all we did was copy important files from our server to our local machine. To restore them, we simply copy them back. As this needs no instruction, we are going to cover the steps you would take if you were to move these files to a new installation, or new server. As most hosting providers will use an installation script such as Fantastico, which we used earlier, the database and wiki administrator will be created when we install the software. If you are installing this on your own server, you will have to take the necessary steps to create these users and give them full permissions.

  1. 1. Import your database to the new server/installation.

  2. 2. Copy your filesystem files and folders to the new server/installation using your FTP program or the file manager provided by your web host.
