Hardware-based clients and thin clients

When it comes to hardware-based clients, there are a few options which, other than the hardware specification, vary by the operating system that they run. We will start with zero clients.

Zero clients

Zero clients are so called, because they have no operating system and use the Teradici PCoIP chipset instead. This means that they require very little maintenance and will typically perform better than using a software-based client or even an endpoint device with local CPU and GPU resources, as they use dedicated hardware designed purely to decode PCoIP.

The one thing to be aware of is that if you require an endpoint device that requires a local OS to run something like client-side rendering or a unified communication solution that requires particular codecs to be installed, zero clients will not be the right device.

Thin clients

Thin clients differ from zero clients in that they do have a local operating system installed on them. This local OS is typically...
