When to use the Pencil Tool

Another powerful tool within Pro Tools, the Pencil Tool offers a few different ways to be used to manipulate waveforms and automation. You can use it to draw directly onto waveforms to repair them when issues arise. You can also draw different types of automation that can be used for different effects. While it may not be as commonly used as some of the other tools, it’s still incredibly useful to know how and when to use it.

Getting ready

For this recipe, you’ll need a Pro Tools session with an audio clip placed into a track. This workflow uses hotkeys, so ensure that Keyboard Focus is set to the Edit window (the small box with az in the top right).
