Placement Groups

A Placement Group is a logical group for your EC2 instance in the single availability zone. Note that Placement Groups cannot span across multiple availability zones. So, the scope of the Placement Group is the availability zone and not the region. It allows for massive network Throughput as compared to other EC2 instances. It allows you to minimize the network latency, as it provides 10 Gbps Throughput . Placement Groups are highly recommended for applications and database set ups that benefits from low network latency and high network Throughput, or both.

In addition to the scope of the Placement Group limitation, there are several more additional limitations that you must be aware of.
