The SmartObjects editor

All SmartObject work is done in Sandbox using the Smart Objects editor, which has been integrated into the Sandbox toolkit. Like many of the other tools included in Sandbox, the Smart Objects Editor can be found by navigating to View | OpenViewPane.

The SmartObjects editor can be found in the View menu

This SmartObject editor allows you to create new rules, classes, and actions. Before we get started, let's have a look at how the editor is laid out.

The Window layout of the SmartObject editor

There are three different areas within the SmartObjects editor window. Just like with any other window in Sandbox, you can undock and rearrange the individual windows. The default layout, however, should work well for the examples we are about to see in this chapter.

The three important parts of the Smart Objects Editor window are:

  • The Rules and Tasks window

  • The Rules List window

  • The Rule Properties window
