Introducing CryMannequin


CryENGINE 3.5 obsoleted the previously used high-level animation system, the Animation Graph. It was replaced with the CryMannequin system (or simply called Mannequin). These two systems are quite different in terms of their setup, usage, and the tasks that they perform; therefore, unfortunately, there is no simple way of converting an Animation Graph setup that is older than Version 3.5 into an equivalent CryMannequin setup. If you upgrade from Version 3.4.x to 3.5.x in the middle of a project, you will have to create a new animation setup for your game.

Because the systems are so different, it makes sense to explain what CryMannequin is and what it does. This should be interesting even for readers who have experience with the Animation Graph from previous versions of CryENGINE.
