Storage classes on S3

S3 storage class represents the classification for each object in S3. There are several types of storage classes with varying attributes in terms of cost, object availability, object durability, and object accessibility. Object durability represents the percentage that the object is going to be there, meaning it will not be deleted or corrupted on AWS S3. This means the higher the durability percentage of the file, the better the object. Object availability represents the percentage that the object is available when you access it or download it. Having both of these attribute percentages at the higher side means that your chances of losing a particular object are very slim. These attributes differ for different storage classes:

  • Standard:
    • Most expensive storage class as compared to the rest of the storage classes
    • 99.999999999% (11 nines) durability
    • 99.99...
