A.3 Installing Python modules and packages

PyPI is the “Python Package Index” and contains over 300,000 modules and packages that you can download and import. You can browse and search this catalog at

https://pypi.org/

The pip application downloads and manages PyPI packages on your system. Use either pip or pip3 from the command line to start the application. I refer to pip in what follows to demonstrate several of its capabilities. When you run these commands, your output will likely be different from what I show here because I have other packages installed. If you are curious, I list the Python packages on my machine in Appendix F, Production Notes.
