Wherever social media meets 3D, we find WebGL. Binding two different technologies such as Facebook and WebGL is a mashup—technologies not designed for each other but integrated to work seamlessly. This requires learning the Facebook API (Application Programming Interface) to acquire pictures that will become texture maps on our 3D objects. This also means grabbing content from Facebook's server for an application hosted on another server. This security issue is the first of many technical challenges. This mission will take us into the future of social media and 3D and a few starting applications, from which we can build the next generation of social media. We will first bridge social media with WebGL by having our own image on Facebook textured onto a 3D mesh, and then build a 3D world of our social media friends that we can navigate and instantly access.
