If you want to create web apps that are not only beautiful to look at, but also easy to use and fully accessible to everyone, including people with special needs, this book will provide you with the basic building blocks to achieve just that. Practical UX methodologies such as creating a solid Information Architecture (IA), wireframes, and prototypes will be discussed in detail. We’ll also show you how to test your designs with representative users, and ensure that they are usable on different devices, browsers and assistive technologies. Lastly, we’ll focus on making your web app fully accessible from a development and design perspective by taking you through the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Summary


In this chapter, we discussed how to make sure your website design works in the real world, for anyone who wants to access it.

As part of this, we described the importance of and differences between responsive, accessible, and universal design. We then looked at how to use these paradigms and their related tools to design effectively for different technologies and people. We specifically looked at how to design for different inputs and outputs, responsively, for different operating systems and browsers, for assistive technologies, and with universal design in mind.

Finally, we briefly looked at how to test your designs using technology. In the next chapter, we describe how to test your designs with users.
