AutoCorrect and AutoFormat

You may already be familiar with some of Word's helpful (or in some cases, more annoying) AutoCorrect features. If you have ever misspelled a word and Word has automatically corrected it for you, that is AutoCorrect helping you. Or, conversely, if you type your last name and Word "corrects" it to a more common word that is not your name, that is Word being not so helpful.

Regardless of what is happening, helpful or harmful, this feature can be used for automating commonly used names and phrases.

AutoFormat as You Type

For this purpose, we will be using a specific feature called AutoFormat as You Type, which corrects something that you type into something else that is programmed in. To create a new AutoFormat as You Type entry, from any open document, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the File menu and click on Options. This will open the Word Options window to the General tab.
